Benzoic acid
Under aerobic condition, benzoic acid was rapidly degraded in soil, with a half-life less than a day. It was mineralized to CO2 to a large extent. In some studies the natural substrate is not fully metabolized to CO2 but is incorporated to microorganisms as carbon source. In this case the rate of degradation, measured as CO2 evolution, decreases because the release of labelled carbon bound in microbes is slow.
