Quinoclamine
Two breakdown compounds were identified in aerobic soil: HN (2-hydroxy-1,4-naphtoquinone) and DHN (1,4-dihydroxynaphtoquinone). Three additional metabolites were tentatively identified. The first step of the degradation is hydrolysis of the chloro-group (1st step), then of the amino-group. Dehydroxylation and reduction are possible intermediate steps towards DHN (1,4-dihydroxynaphtalene). No metabolites other than CO2 were identified after breakdown of the aromatic naphtoquinone ring; since this ring is relatively stable chemically as well as biologically, this could be expected and was consisted with the proposed microbial degradation pathway. Under aerobic conditions, no metabolites occurerd at levels > 10%.
