Hypophosphite
Reduced phosphorous compounds are produced on a large scale, however metabolism of these compounds is relatively unexplored. Many microorganisms like Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas fluorescens, and Klebsiella aerogenes, are known to oxidize two important reduced phosphorous compounds: phosphite and hypophosphite. [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12161433|White and Metcalf (2002)] have shown that, in Pseudomonas stutzeri WM88, hypophosphite oxidation takes place via a phosphite intermediate.
